QUESTION OF SALARY INCREASES. MINISTER’S REMINDER. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, May 9. Representations were made to the Government to-day in support of increased salaries for the Post and Telegraph officers. It was asked that in the clerical division the maximum should bo raised from £295 to £.340 per annum, and in the general division an increase was sought from £240 to £290. „ , Replying, Hon. G. W. Forbes said that he would place the requests before Sir Joseph Ward at Rotorua next week. ... Referring to the financial position, Mr Forbes said that the country had a difficult time ahead, and said that somo outside business organisations were maintaining their staffs, but not without sacrifice, and he reminded the deputation that there were many people who would like to get into the Public Service. One of the difficulties was in maintaining the Public Service in the face of very hard times.
