ELECTRIC ROWER
QUESTION OF MINIMUM CHARGE, (Special to “Standard.”) FEILDING, May 9. A complaint that thero was something wrong when Palmerston North and Marton could have a minimum charge of 2s 6d per month for their electric light and Feilding had to pay 5s was mado at tho Feilding Borough Council meeting last night by Cr F. S. Guy. He wanted to know if something could be done by tho council to have tho matter rectified. Tho Mayor (Mr G. E. Taylor) stated that it was not within the provinco of tho council or tho street lighting committee of the council. It was a matter purely between the Manawatu-Oroua Power Board and tho Feilding representative on the board. If Cr Guy liked, tho council could pass a resolution to tho effect that the Feilding representative take tho matter up with the board. Cr Guy agreed with this course and moved that the Feilding representative urge upon the board tho lowering of the minimum rato in Feilding to 2s 6d. Cr E. Fair: I have some feeling in this matter, too, as chairman of the 6treet lighting committeo. I think it unfair that Feilding should have to pay 5s while Palmerston North and Marton get off with 2s 6d. I would like to sec the agreement between us and the board to see if there is anything in it relating to this charge. Cr Guy: I’m afraid we’ll find ourselves tied up there. The document was procured and, following a brief glance through it, tho Mayor 6aid he could find no specific mention of any minimum charge being fixed upon. There was nothing to stop the board, however, reducing the charge to 2s 6d in Feilding even if it kept it at the present rato of 5s in the country. The fact that Marton had a 2s 6d minimum late in another board gave Feilding a good claim for consideration, Mr Taylor stated. Tho motion was carried.
