CARNERA’S BOUT WITH NEGRO. INVESTIGATION BEGUN. ' new York. April i 6. A message from Oakland, California, reports that the State Boxing Commission, which withheld Camera’s purse of 10,000 dollars, lias begun an investigation into reports that the Italian’s fight with Leon Chevalier, the negro, on April 14 was “faked.” The negro, who weighed 2161bs and made an impressive showing for six rounds, dropped for the count of nine. He arose, and one of his seconds tossed in the towel, whereupon Camera was awarded a technical knock-out which action is illegal in California, unless the chief second halts the figlrt. Chevalier’s chief second stated that he was so surprised that he failed to protest to the referee. He asserted that the fight could have been stopped.' Chevalier's wife allegedly persuaded the negro to admit that he had been approached with a promise that the nurse “would be more than 900 dollars’’ if 110 consented to follow questionable arrangements. , •
