MR AND MRS WILSON FAREWELLED. (From Our Own Correspondent.) « * APITI, April 14. A series of farewells to Mr W. Wilson, the local Methodist minister for tho past threo years, have been held recently. On Tuesday evening last the church people of Apiti, Umutoi and Utuwai, together with tho returned soldiers, gathered at the Town Hall to wish Mr and Mrs Wilson God speed. During his term of office Mr Wilson has been actively connected with anything to do with the. welfare of the returned soldiers; and almost a full muster attended his farewell service—a mark of their appreciation of his efforts towards keoping them in touch with each other. During tho evening musical items were given by Mrs B. Waterson (pianoforte solo), Misses Pratt and Purnell (duet), Mrs Churchill (recitation), Mesdames K. Waterson and W. Dent and Messrs Morris, Clifton, Stanley and Churchill (songs). Mr W. Osborne, chairman of the meeting, called upon Mr Len Gould to present the guests of honour with a cheque from tho church people. Mr W. Hogan also presented, on behalf of the . returned soldiers, to Mr Wilson a handsome ; travelling rug. Miss E. Osborne presented ‘ Mrs Wilson with a beautiful bouquet. Mr j Wilson feelingly replied and thanked ; those present, oti behalf of Mm Wilson, for their nice gifts. A very pleasant evening concluded with the singing of “For they are jolly good fellows.” On Thursday evening a social was hold at the usual Bible class meeting. Music, games and competitions were indulged in. | Mr and Mrs Wilson were presented with ! a crystal water jug. Mrs Wilson, who has ! been leader for some time, took the oppori tunity to present to Aliss AI. The district -in general greatly, benefited by the welcome rain. PERSONAL. Little Madge McKay, who lias been in Hospital, has recovered sufficiently to be allowed to go home.
