ANGLICAN CHURCH
DIFFERENCES OVERSEAS. (United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received. April'ls. 10.5 a.m. LONDON, April 14. The Bishop of Birmingham’s (Dr, Barnes) conflict with extremist AngloCatholics has reached a crisis owing to his refusal to license Rev. George Simmonds, who was made the recipient of a presentation by patrons of the living of St. Aidan’s, Birmingham, the patrons including the Bishop of Truro. Dr. BarnesV refusal was based on the fact that Mr Simmonds declined to promise that the reservation of .the sacrament, which is oontrary to church law, should cease at St. Aidan’s. Mr Simmonds took the matter to the Chancery Division, where Judge Bennett made an order that he should be admitted. The Judge commented on the fact that Dr. Barnes had not entered. an appearance in the case to defend his action. ‘
Dr. Barnes now states: “The patrons can go to Chancery, and if their appeal causes me to be sent to prison, I shall not complain. I can thus serve reformed religion.’’ ' , • -m
