CAMPBELL STREET SITE.

REQUEST FOR IMPROVEMENT. “That this meeting of householders requests the Borough Council to place on tlie estimates a sum for the improvement of the Campbell Street playing area.” . . This was the text of a resolution carried unanimously by the annual meeting of householders in the Central School last evening. “I don’t know whether it is within the province of the school committee or not,” said Mr J. L. C. Merton, “but I want to refer to the old Campbell Street site. It is about time something was done. No one seems to want it. I will move that the incoming committee be recommended to make representations to tlie Borough Council to do something with the playing area. It is nothing but an eyesore at present. Mr W. R. Mayes considered that the site had considerable sentimental value. A petition would get wholehearted support and would give (.lie Borough Council a lead. Mr J. A. Grant stated that every member of the committee had been in favour of the site being made into a playground. Mr C. Taylor thought that any representative to the Borough Council should come from the householders. Mr Merton agreed to amending his motion along those lines and. it was carried in the form stated above.
