MANAWATU-OROUA BOARD

The monthly meeting of the Mana-watu-Oroua Power Board was held yesterday, when there were present:Messrs J. ’A. ’ Nash, M.P. (in the chair) - , J. Linklater, M.P., J. Hodgens, O. McElroy, H. H. Hunt, F. Roberts, M. A. Eliott. P. J. Small, J. H. Perrett, L. T. McLean and A. Campbell. An apology for absence was received from Mr P. G. Guy. CORRESPONDENCE. From the N.Z. Power Boards’ Association advising that the annual conference would be held in" July and that remits were required to be in by May 31. —The chairman and Messrs Linklater and Small were appointed the board’s representatives, while the engineer and secretary will also attend. From an insurance office with reference to the insurance of contents of the Bunnythorpe sub-station. The writer stated that the rate would be 7s 9d with a “warranty not liable for damage caused by electric current, except to property set on fire there by not being the machine or instrument in which the fire originated.” Without the warranty the rate would be 17s 9d. —The chairman mentioned that it had originally been intended not to insure the sub-station, but he now moved that the board accept the second proposal aforestated, wnich would entail an outlay of £32 15s to cover all the plant. Mr Perrett secondedthe motion and it was decided to take out a policy accordingly. From the Presbyterian young •» women’s Bible class asking for loan of two electric ranges for the Easter camp at Feilding.—The request was acceded to. From Mr N. R. Boyd, inspector of the Department of Agriculture, advising that he did not tlrink the question of water heaters could be met by giving names of tlie dissatisfied users, and suggesting that a round table conference with the farmers concerned be lield.—The chairman stated that the board was entitled to know the facts. Mr Boyd was a public servant and lie moved that Mr Singleton, officer in charge of the writer’s department, be communicated with in order that the information sought be obtained. “The board is entitled to the information,” added the speaker. In seconding the motion, Mr Perrett stated that Mr Boyd had made statements and Ire would have to substantiate them: Action as - suggested was agreed to. From tho Feilding Borough Council agreeing to renew the lease of ihe Feilding office. —Received. From the Makowhai Dairy Coy. asking the board to allow the rebate of the discount of £4.16s 4d as tho account was not received until after tire monthly meeting.—The chairman commented that the board was prevented from doing so by law and the secretary was instructed to reply accordingly. From the Public Works Department advising that the Government were included amongst supply authorities ana that they had been called upon to pay their portion of the cost of administering tire Electrical Wiremen’s Registration Act. —Received. From Mr Hamish Wilson agreeing to pay £75 per annum if the line was extended to Ngaio to connect with his property.—Held over pending >~lie board , considering the question cf power loans. The chairman of the Town Planning Board wrote advising that arrangements had been made for a public enquiry to bo held at Wanganui on May 26 for the purpose of hearing evidence from all interested parties to determine the boundaries of the region comprising the city of Wanganui and surrounding districts.—Members sought information as to how the board was involved and it was deemed preferable to enquire whether the communication had not been forwarded in error. From the Awahuri Dairy Coy. stating that complaints had been received regarding unsatisfactory water heaters •and asking the board to look into the matter. —A further complaint was received from Mr J. R. Nortkcott, Feilding, the writer stating that . uhe water-heating system had not proved satisfactory since tho clock had been installed. On Friday last the occupants had been in Feilding all day but on their return at night the water had not been hot enough to wash-up the dishes. When first installed the cost had been 14s for two months, whereas now it had been 18s for two months and hot water was not obtainable.— Both matters were referred to the engineer for investigation.
