WHERE EAST MEETS WEST.
Two short lectures on different phases of “East and West” will bo givon by Mr J. A. Brailsford, tutor-organiser of the W.E.A., at' tho Oroua Hall, Cuba Stroet, to-night at 8 o'clock. Continuing his biographical sketches of great Asiatic loaders, ho will describe tho romantic career of .loso Rizal, tho national horo-martyr of the Filipinos. Ho will then take up on<J of tho knotty inter-racial problems —the meeting of East and West in tho world’s shipping. Ho will show that the employment of Asiatics in the crews of British and othor ships has been increasing and that at tho same time Japan has been making rapid progress with her owrf mercantile marino. Discussing the problems .thus arising, the lecturer will claim that it is necessary to tako a wider outlook on the whole subject of our relations with Eastern peoples.
