THE WEATHER

GENERAL FORECAST. A siigilt low-pressure wave crossed Southern New Zealand early yesterterday morning; another one is advancing over the Southern Tasnuui Sea. Weather conditions are and will continue to be controlled, hpwever, mainly by an anti-cyclone which extends between the Dominion and Australia. Moderate southerly winds north of Cape Egmont and Castlepoint; elsewhere moderate westerly to southwesterly, freshening at times. Generally smooth to moderate, but rather rough on tho Otago Coast. Light and variable winds in the northern, portion of the Eastern Tasman Sea; moderate to fresh westerly ■to south-westerlies in -the southern portion; seas smooth to moderate. AVeatlier mainly fair to fiine, but, some isolated showers probable in tho northern find southern extremities of the Dominion-nnd also in Ijiouth Westland. Cool night but J mild day temperatures. , DISTRICT REPORT. VERY COLD NIGHT. The Government meteorologist wired to-day: The indications are for variable and moderate breezes, and moderate southerly winds prevailing. There is a prospect of fair weather. The night will probably be very cold, with frosts inland. The barometer is rising slowly. MANAWATU RIVER GAUGE. Noon. —12in.
