FARMER CHARGED.

CAR LICENSE CANCELLED. Per Press Association. TE AROHA, April 10. Albert Hirst, a farmer, of Elstow, was charged before Mr F. W. Platts, S.M., to-day, with having, while in a state of intoxication, driven a motorcar in such a manner as to collide with Mary Fitzgerald, aged 70, severely injuring her. Defendant pleaded guilty in extenuating circumstances. The police called five witnesses, who gave evidence that accused was under the influence of liquor at the time of the. accident. - | The Magistrate said it was clear that accused, who was returning from the Paeroa races, had been drinking regularly during the day. A fine of £3O was imposed and his license cancelled for two years. Fines aggregating £SO were imposed on 20 motorists charged with speeding.
