CHARGES OF ARSON.

CASE AT NEW PLYMOUTH. NEW PLYMOUTH, April 8. Suspected of having wilfully set fire to his business premises at Eltham on Tanuarv 10, Robert Thomson, a partner in the firm of Thomson Brothers coachbuilders, was committed to the Supreme Court at New Plymouth to stand trial for arson. Constablo Shirley said that accused was interviewed the day-following the fire. Accused said that he had been out in hie car on the night of the fire, which occurred at about ten o clock. He had put his car away in the front nortion of the premises at 8.15 p.m. !uid had ’ gone home, returning to his business premises at about 9.10 o clock to work on a car. He was leaving the shop at 10.10 o’clock when he noticed he had left the lights burning, inside he entered the building again with the intention of putting the lights out. He struck a match as he entered to see his way over some timber and other wnrles There was a sudden explosion and the place caught fire.
