RANGITIKEI LODGE. . (From Dur Own Correspondent.) BULLS, April 6. The regular fortnightly meeting of Lodge Rangitikei No. 14, 1.0.0. F., was held on Thursday evening, N.G. Bro. Petersen presiding over a vory good attendance of members.. One member was reported siok. ' Correspondence was received as follows: — From Hylton and Kotiro Lodges, Aramoho, extending an invitation to the installation of officers. From Pyramid and Whanganui Dodges, inviting members to _the installation. From District Lodge, notifying members of a meeting to be held in Wanganui. One candidate was proposed for membership. Several members applied for degrees, and it was decided to hold a special meeting on Wednesday, April 9, for the purpose of conferring degrees. The secretary reported on the dispensary meeting, held on April 2. . The installation of officers will take place on next lodge night, April 17th. RUGBY FOOTBALL. Football practices have been well attended during The week, and players should strip very fit when tho real business commences. Both seniors and juniors are taking great interest in the game this year, and, with the addition of several new players from other parts, strong teams will be fielded by the Bulls Club. On Saturday a eenior fifteen travelled to Foxton, but it was not up to full strength, several prominent players not being available so early in the season. The Rangitikei sub-union competitions commence on Wednesday next, when Bulls juniors will meet Old Boys juniors at Marton. On tho following Saturday Bulls seniors play Rata, at Rata. Both matches promise to be interesting. PERSONAL. Mr A. J. Petrie, manager of tho. Bulls branch of the Bank of New Zealand, returned from nis holidays on Saturday, but does not resume duty until after Easter. Messrs F. J. Mansell and F. A. Holland, who are on a health recruiting trip to Rotorua, are both reported to have made improvement. Mr H. J. McManaway left Wellington on Friday to attend the Easter racing carnival in Sydney. Mr McMana;way’s filly, Habit, was sent across on the same steamer. CROQUET. A competition afternoon will be held on the Bulls Croquet Club’s green on Wednesday next. Last week several members of the Bulla Croquet Club visited Marton, where Mrs S. W. Ingram was successful in winning a trophy. POACHERS EARLY START. As is well-known, the shooting season for feathered gamo does not open until May, but indications are not wanting that poachers have been busy during the past few weeks, and rangers and others are now on the watch for illegal taking of game. A short time ago, while a Rangitikei farmer and his family were away at a race meeting, a party took “French Leave,” and “cleaned up" almost everything with wings on the property. On Friday morning a large car passing through a neighbouring township dropped a wild duck which had been recently shot. The occurrence was promptly reported to the authorities.
