BOXING SCHOOL.
FRITZ HOLLAND’S ENTERPRISE. Fritz Holland, the former welter-weight and middle-weight champion of Australia and America, has decided to open a box-, ing school in Palmerston North, an announcement that is of considerable interest to boxing pupils and fans. During tho past ten years, Mr Holland has taught boxing throughout New Zealand, from Raetihi to tho Bluff. Ho now plans to make his headquarters in Auckland instead of in and he will then make periodically recurring visits as far north as Whangarei, and as far south as Palmerston North. A feature of Mr Holland’s plan of teaching is his honorary membership scheme. Under this system there is, besides the ordinary classes for paying pupils, au arrangement whereby boys can learn to box, even though neithor they nor their parents can afford the regular fees. Mr Holland comes with the highest of credentials from boxing associations, mayors and loading citizens wherever he •has been. Even churches have added their endorsement of the man and his methods. Hie last class at New Plymouth was completed last Saturday night and he also taught the boxing class at the New Plymouth High School. Mr Holland's classes here ten years ago were a great success. Letters have been received by Mr Holland from patrons of the sport and the following are typical. Mr W. Lissint Clayton, patron of tho Gisborne Boxing Association, writes under date March 8, 1930: —“To Whom It May Concern: I have very great pleasure in testifying to the warm appreciation of the members of the Gisborne Boxing Association of Mr Fritz Holland’s boxing classes. It is generally recognised that Mr Holland’s advent among us is a distinct acquisition to the town. His schemo for providing tuition for boys unable to pay for it themselves is generous, and deserves tho consideration of everyone, not only those who are enthusiastic supporters of the noble art. Mr Holland’s methods of teaching deserve every commendation, as he inculcates discipline, morality, and straightforwardness whilst teaching boxing. His classes have only to bo witnessed to receive tho approval of all desiring the welfare of our rising generation. I therefore heartily recommend Mr Fritz Holland to whomsoever he may be brought in contact with.” N. Taylor, St. Paul’s Church Vestry, Wairoa, writing (under date March 6, 1930, says: —“To Whom It May Concern: Mr Fritz Holland has had the use of the St. Paul’s Church schoolroom for the purpose of holding his boxing classes. The classes have been conducted in a splendid manner, and not only havo the boys been taught boxing, but also good citizenship. The discipline has been excellent.”
