WHAT ROTARY MEANS.

“Rotary is not a doctrine, nor a belief, nor a religion. Rotary is friendship—it is love; love towards the work-ing-man, the child, humanity, to our duty; and our social obligations to others.” Mr H. Guthrie (president of the- Dunedin (N.Z.) Rotary Club, thus spoke to a crowded audience at Sydney on the final day of the entertainment of visitors to the Pacific Rotary Conference. “Rotary,” ho proceeded, “is a training school for the building of friendships, not ' battleships. It knows no boundaries; there are no ■foreigners, no aliens in Rotary; it knows no colour line. It has no politics or religious distinction. Rotary is not an instrument to bring us the things that serve us, but a channel through which may flow our service to others. The spirit of Rotary cannot be bought— it is imbided gradually. When you come to know the other fellow better, how often do you find he has many similar ideas to your own P To pull down the barriers that separate nations wo have first of all to;pull down, those which divide us as individuals. Tlio moro of the spirit of fellowship you put into your life the moro you will get out of it.”
