A Press Association message . from Dunedin states that private advice has been received of the death in Melbourne of Rev. Graham Balfour, a former, minister of First Church. - - The death occurred suddenly this morning of Mr H, Penberthy of Newbury Mr Penberthy was quite well and bright last evening, but collapsed early this morning and did not regain consciousness. His death is attributed to heart failure and it is understood that probably no inquest will be held., Mr E. Brairley, of Annandale Avenue, who has been connected with the local branch of the Public Trust, has been transferred to Napier. lrj or to taking their departure Mr and Mrs Brairley were farewelled by friends at the home of Mr and Mrs J.. B. Cunningham when the opportunity was taken to convey best wishes for the future of the couple who have been very popular while resident in Palmerston North. Airs Brairley was presented with a handsome bedroom clock as a souvenir of the occasion. A Press Association message , from Auckland states that Mr A. S. Reid, who has been a member of the literary staff of the Auckland Star for nearly 50 years, and for 38 years continuously chief sub-editor, retired yesterday. Mr Reid was farewelledj by his colleagues of the literary staff, and the heads of all the other departments of the newspaper. Mr W. Cecil Leys, the managing director, complimented Mr Reid on his exceptionally fine record, and wished him happiness in retirement. On behalf of the staff, Mr Leys presented him with a cabinet gramophone, and a handbag for Airs Reid. Tributes were also paid to his work as the Press Association representative in Auckland. Mr Heid, in the course of his reply, mentioned that he had not been away from work through illness for a week during the whole of his service.
