THE REFORM PARTY.
LEADER IN RANGITIKEI. (From Our Own Correspondent.) MARTON, April 4. Enthusiatstic meetings of Reform paj-ty supporters in Rangitikei wero held at Taihape yesterday on tho occasion of a visit to tho town by Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, Leader of tho party, and Mrs Coates. Arriving in tho early morning, Mr and Mrs Coates renowed several acquaintanceships throughout tho forenoon and at threo o'clock were tho guests of honour at a garden party in tho Domain, organised by. tho local sub-branch of the Reform League. The Mayor, Mr J. P. Aldridge, officially welcomed the visitors and expressed the hope that their stay, though short, would bo an enjoyable ono. Mr Coates briefly roplicd, after which numerous visitors were presented to Mr and Mrs Coates. Among thoso present were Messrs J. A-. Nash, M.P., J. Linklator, M.P., Mr J. Gordon Eliott, Reform candidato-olect for Oroua, Mr Alexander Sfeiart, prospective Reform candidate for Rangitikei, Mr W. R. Anderson, chairman of the Taihape subbranch of tho Reform League, Mr E. Goodbehcre, a member of tho Dominion executive of the League, Messrs R. J. Moore, A.Way, F. Soler and G. Lampp, members of tho Marton branch of the League. Notable business and farming gentlemen from all parts of tho district also were present with their ladies. During tho afternoon,” tea was served on tho lawn in front of tho grandstand, the latter having been decorated with greenery and flowers. Music also was provided In tho evening an address to supporters of tho party was given in tho Majestic Theatre by Mr Coates. Other speakers were Messrs Nash, .Linklater Stuart, Mr Aldridge again presiding. Mr and Mrs Coates spent the night at the residence of Mr and Mrs, W. McA. Duncan, and to-day motored to Huntcrvillo where they wore guests at lunch of Mrs A. G. Simpson, “Gloimiorven,” and later mot a large number of friends on the bowling green whero informal talks took place and aftornoon tea was served. Motoring to Marton, Mr and Mrs Coates again mot a largo number of supporters of the party at the Town Hall, tho Druids’ Hall where the gathering was to have been hold proving too small for the number present. The Mayor, Mr Fred Purnell, presided and Mr Coates’s address was on tho linos of that given at Taihape. ' Afterwards tho Loador of the Reform Party and his wife motored to Palmerston North, cheers being given as they went off.
