LOSSES IN N.S.W. RECOVERY PROPOSALS. (United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received April 2, 11 a.m. SYDNEY, April 2. Losses of £2,084,000 on the State railways and £348,250 on the trams during the year were forecast by Mr Stevens, Treasurer, in a financial statement tahled in the Legislative Assembly to-day. Among the proposals for dealing with the problem is the recovery of a portion of the business lost to road transport. Legislation is being considered authorising the withholding of lower freight rates from consigners who utilise road transport tor a portion of their business; also to withhold in similar cases the starving stock rate. Passenger concession fares will be reviewed.
