SOCIAL CLUB. (From Our Own Correspondent.) RONGOTEA, March 31. The third annual meeting of the Rongotea and District) Social Club was held in the Masonic Hall on Thursday evening when Mr W. J. Amies presided over a largo and enthusiastic gathering. After the balance-sheet, as read, was adopted, the officers for the ensuing season wero elected as follow: Chairman, Mr W. J. Amies (re-elected); secretary, Miss M, Liggins; general committee, Mrs M. Bower, Messrs Hughes, Baylis, Eados and Fraser. It was decided that membership fees and charges at tho door remain the same as in previous years. Only members will be able to enter into the points prize competitions, which will be of three months’ duration, commencing at the beginning of May. The management of the catering and supper arrangements will bo left in the hands of a committee which will be elected at a later date to deal with same. The season will open with the usual euchre party next Thursday evening, the prizes for which are to be kindly donated by Messrs W. G. Baylis and T. Fraser. The meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the chair. TENNIS. A return match was played between the Hokowhitu and Rongotea tennis teams on Saturday afternoon at the Hokowhitu courts, and after some very keenly contested and interesting games had been played, Rongotea emerged victorious by ten sets to five and 78 games to 61 games. Owing to a late start being made all the games could not be completed. At the conclusion of the match Mr K. Tunnicliffe on behalf of tho Rongotea team, thanked the members of. the Hokowhitu Club for the excellent treatment received, and intimated that more contests would be looked forward to next season. The following is a detailed account of the match, Rongotea players being mentioned first: Men’s singles.—Fenwick lost to Christie 56, Tunnicliffe lost to H. Amos 2 —6; Liggins beat F. Amos 6—5, Buchanan beat Holmes 6—4. Ladies’ singles.—Mis3 Hunt beat Miss Morrell 6 —3, Miss White beat Miss Heoney 6—2, Miss Liggins lost to Mis 3 Freeman 6 —3. Men’s doubles. —Fenwick and Tunnicliffe beat Amos and Christie 6 —4, Liggins and Buchanan beat Amos and Holmes 6 —2. Ladies' doubles.—Misses Tunnicliffe and Hunt beat Mrs Holmes and Miss Morrell 6 Misses Liggins and White beat Misses Freeman and Hecney 6—3, Mixed doubles.—Tunnicliffe and Miss Hunt lost to Christie and Miss Morrell 4 —6, Fenwick and Miss Tunnicliffe lost to Amos and Mrs Holmes 3—6, Liggins and Miss White beat Amos and Miss Heeney 6—5, Buchanan and Miss Liggins beat Holmes and Miss Freeman 6 —l.
