MANAWATU COMPETITIONS. PALMERSTON NORTH WINS DOUBLE. By defeating Northern and Bulls in the A and B grade competitions of the Manawatu championships on Saturday, the Palmerston North Club has carried off chief honours in both sections. Palmerston North won by 14 games to 2 in each match. Results are as follow, Palmerston North players being mentioned first in each case: A GRADE. Palmerston North v. Northern. Men’s Singles.—Robertson beat Williamson, 9 —B; Hooper beat Isaacs, 9—6; Yates lost to Harris, 5 —9; Carter beat Buist, 9—5. Ladies’ Singles.—Miss Astle beat Miss A. Heard, 7 —3; Miss Haggitt beat Miss Kirk, 7—3; Miss Litchfield beat Mrs Heald, 7 —3; Miss Tanner beat Miss D. Heard, 7 —2. AUSTRALIANS AT AUCKLAND. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, March 23. Australia scooped the pool at the special invitation tennis tournament arranged by the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association. Ladies’ singles.—Final: Miss Marjorie Macfarlane beat Miss Beryl Knight, B—6,8 —6, 7 —9, 6—l. Men’s doubles.—Final: Kalms and Teague beat Sproule and Donohoe, 11 —9, 5 —7, 6 —2, 6—-2. Ladies doubles. —Final: Mrs Scott Watson and Miss P. Miller beat Mrs Napier and Miss Ramsay, 6—3, 6—4.
