MANAWATU COMPETITIONS. PALMERSTON NORTH WINS DOUBLE. By defeating Northern and Bulls in the A and B grade competitions of the Manawatu championships on Saturday, the Palmerston North Club has carried off chief honours in both sections. Palmerston North won by 14 games to 2 in each match. Results are as follow, Palmerston North players being mentioned first in each case: A GRADE. Palmerston North v. Northern. Men’s Singles.—Robertson beat Williamson, 9 —B; Hooper beat Isaacs, 9—6; Yates lost to Harris, 5 —9; Carter beat Buist, 9—5. Ladies’ Singles.—Miss Astle beat Miss A. Heard, 7 —3; Miss Haggitt beat Miss Kirk, 7—3; Miss Litchfield beat Mrs Heald, 7 —3; Miss Tanner beat Miss D. Heard, 7 —2. AUSTRALIANS AT AUCKLAND. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, March 23. Australia scooped the pool at the special invitation tennis tournament arranged by the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association.
