SOVIET TRIAL
ALLEGED CONSPIRATORS. PLOT TO FREE THE UKRAINE. BLAZE OF PUBLICITY. (United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received March 11, 10.5 a.m. LONDON, March iO. The trial has commenced at Kharkov of forty-five intellectuals, including twenty of the most prominent Ukrainian scholars and scientists, on a charge of fostering a counter revolution. The trial, which is being conducted in the Opera House, is being staged in a plaze of publicity, tens of thousands being given an opportunity to see and hear the proceedings, which are being filmed and broadcast by wireless. It is alleged that the forty-five are ringleaders in a conspiracy to free the Ukraine from the Soviet yoke, and that their plans include preparation for an armed revolt in the coming spring, and discussions of plans to assassinate MM. Stalin and Veroshilov. It is alleged that they received funds for the purpose from Poland and Russians in Paris and Berlin. M. Serge Yefremov, head of the Ukraine Academy of Science, is accused of being the head of the conspirators. and with using the Academy of Science as the headquarters. NO DIFFERENTATION. Following the example of Britain, Germany has notified her intention to hold the Bolshevik Government responsible for the activities of the executive of the Third International. It is understood that Dr Curtius, Foreign Minister, has informed the Russian Ambassador that the Government of the Reich makes no distinction between the utterances and actions of the Communist International and those of the Russian Government, and will hold the Soviet Government responsible for the utterances and actions of the Communist International.
