WOODVILLE.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) WOODVILLE, March 6. A six-roomed house on the Gorge Road, occupied by Mr Hocking and owned by Mr C. Ware, was totally destroyed by fire at about 2.30 a.m. on Wednesday, the contents also being lost. The fire brigade put in a smart appearance but was powerless to quell the blaze owing to the fact tha there was no water supply available. Both the house and the contents were insured, but it is understood that Mr Hocking is a heavy loser. Mr M. J. Millor, deputy-Mayor of Lyttelton, is visiting Mr and Mrs Shearrru Miss Owen, of Epsom, Auckland, is also their guest. FLOWER SHOW. The 45th autumn show of the Woodvillo Horticultural and Industrial Society, was hold yesterday in splendid weather and drew a large patronage. The exhibition was successful in every way, competitors and visitors coming from lar and wide. Among the judges were Mr A. J. Shailer (Palmerston North) and Mrs Bradfield (Palmerston North). Outstanding among the prize winners were the following:— Pot plants.—Mrs H. Giles, seven firsts, nine seconds and one third; Mrs L. Walker, throe firsts and one second; A. Hutching, fivo firsts, three seconds and one third; F. Shearman, two firsts and threo seconds. Cut flowers.—H. Ogier, four firsts and two seconds; Mrs M. Foster, 11 firsts, and six-seconds; Mrs H, Giles, two firsts; Mrs Scharnweber, one first, three seconds and three thirds; Mrs H. Eades, four firsts and one third; H. Simmons, seven firsts, five seconds and one third; Miss J. Beattie, two firsts; Miss Sheen, seven firsts and two seconds; Mrs R. L. James, two firsts and one second. Decorative. —R. Garry, one first and one third; Mrs: Hustwick/ four firsts and one second; Mrs R. L. James, one first, one second and one third. Fruit. —Mrs B. Johnson, two firsts; Mrs J. Bryson, two firste and three thirds; Mrs B. H. Norman, one first and three seconds; L. Williams, first and three secseconds; L. Williams, one first and one second; F. Shearman, two firsts.
