ANZAC DAY.
RAILWAY ARRANGEMENTS. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Feb. 25. In a statement made to-day, Hon. W. B. Taverner Minister of Railways, drew attention to the fact that Anzac Day, April 25, will this year fall on the Friday following Easter Monday. “This proximity,” said Mr Taverner, “makes the problem of dealing with through passenger traffic on Anzac Day somewhat more difficult than it has been in previous years. The Act provides that Anzac Day shall be treated as a Sunday. In order to conform with the spirit of the Act, it is proposed to suspend the whole of the railway time-table with the exception of the ordinary Sunday trains and the express trains between Auckland and Wellington in the North Island, and between Christchurch. Dunedin and Invercargill, and Christchurch and Greymouth in the South Island. These expresses are the minimum requirements to provide the essential through services and connections to and from the inter-Island ferry steamers running on that day.”
