BOWLING. (From Our Own Correspondent). BULLS, Feb. 24. Perfect weather prevailed for the annual bowling match between commercial travellers of Wanganui and Palmerston North, which was played on the Bulls Bowling Club's green during the week-end, and great interost was taken in the contest. Five rinks represented each side, and victory rested with Palmerston North, the final scores being 244 to 217. At_ the conclusion of play Mr C, Sewell (\\ anganui) and Mr P. Kabonc (Palmerston North) thanked the Bulls Bowling Club for allowing them to use the green, and Mr Rabono paid a high tribute to the sportsmanship of Bulls bowlers and the very fine playing greens prepared for them by tho club’s caretaker. Mr Doig-Scott handed tho Sewell Rose Bowl to Mr Rabono, and while congratulating tho winners 6aid that the trophy was “only lent,” and that Wanganui would get it back next time. Tho Aluminium Cup for tho skip of the rink scoring most points was won by Mr Percy Morris (Palmerston North), who suitably replied. Mr Corbridgo, who was responsible for the system of play and the smooth running of the tourney, was also eulogised. Cheers for the winners and losers, members of the Bulls Bowling Club, and the ladies -concluded a very pleasant day. During an interval in the mornings play a handsome silver challenge cup was presented to the Bulls Bowling Club in recognition of their kindness in allowing tho commercial traveller’s to use their green annually. Mr C. Sewell was the first speaker, and on behalf of tho combined teams thanked the president of the Bulls Bowling Club (Mr J. 11. Perrett) and members for again permitting them to play at Bulls, and called upon Mr Rabone to make tho presentation. Mr Rabone supplemented tho first speaker’s remarks, and said that the C.T.’s had played for seven years for tho Sewell Cup. Matches had been played at Marton, YVanganui, and at Palmerston North, but in Bulls they had now struck the happy medium, and they were very grateful to the Bulls B.C. for" tho use of their very fine green, and hoped to be allowed to play here in the future. On behalf of the commercial travellers, he had much plasurc in handing to Mr Perrett a challenge cup, the gift being unconditional and its allocation being left to the club committee. Mr Perrett, in accepting tho cup, said that Bulls bowlers were always pleased to see the commercial travellers here. There was a fraternal spirit betwoen bowlers, and it would not be right if a warm welcome was not ulways tendered to visitors. The cup was a very handsome one, and would serve to remind Bulls bowlers of their commercial traveller friends. No one could forget tho great humanitarian work which the commercial travellers had accomplished. Their efforts in the cause of suffering humanity were well known in the country as well as in the cities, and on that account also they wore always welcome. The cup is inscribed: “Wanganui and Palmerston North Commercial Travellers’ Challenge Cup. TENNIS. Bulls and Northern “A” grade teams met at Bulla on Saturday in fine weather, and an interesting contest resulted in favour of tho home team by 9 sets to 7. Following are details of the play, Bulls representatives being mentioned first: — Men’s singles.—R. Flower beat YVilliamson 9—6, Mansell lost to Isaacs 9—4, Henderson lost to Buist 9—7, G. Flower lost to Goode 9—4. Ladies’ singles.—Miss Walker beat Miss Kirk 7—l, Mrs Law beat Miss D. Heard 7—2, Mrs Mansell lost to Mrs Heald 7—2, Mrs Carter beat Miss Sinclair 7 —5. Men’s doubles. —Flower and Mansell beat Williamson and Isaacs 9—4, Henderson and Flower lost to Buist and Goode 9 —B. Ladies’ doubles. —Miss Walker and Mrs Law beat Misses Heard and Kirk 7—o, Mesdames Mansell and Carter lost to Mrs Heald and Miss Sinclair 7—3. Mixed doubles. —Flower and Miss Walker beat Williamson and Miss Kirk 9 —4, Mansell and Mrs Law beat Isaacs and Miss | Heard 9—5, Henderson and Mrs Mansell bent Buist and Mrs Heald 9 —2, Flower land Mrs Carter lost to Goode and Miss 'Sinclair 9—4.
