ROYAL ENGAGEMENT
CONTRADICTORY REPORTS. BUCHAREST, Feb. 23. Princess Ileana’s engagement continues to be the subjeco of contradictory reports. Although it is persistently stated that the engagement is ended, Count Hockberg insists that this report is not true. The Count, who at present is at Cannes, declares that this is simply a ouestion.of religion. “The Princess is Orthodox and lam a Roman Catholic. The Pope refuses to marry us but tins question will soon be settled,” lie said. TROUBLE IN MONACO. MONTE CARLO, Feb. 23. The Royal heads of Monaco rife again in difficulties. It is announced that the hereditary Princess Charlotte is determined to obtain a separation from Prince Pierre, a son of the ruling Prince, who has again left Monaco, leaving his two children in the custody of the Duchess de Vendome at Cannes. Princess Charlotte has returned here, but the Chamberlain and ladies-in-waiting, not desiring to be involved in intrigue, have resigned, it is reported that the Prince is also moving for separation and the custody of the children. ~ ■ •i„ These matrimonial troubles coincide with the renewal of dissensionsi m the Principalitv. Prince Louis, thei pr - sent ruler, has dissolved the National Council. The new elections will take place on March 9.
