MAY BE ABANDONED. Received Februarv 22, 1 p.m. LONDON, Feb. 21. Rumours have been current for some time that, owing to the possibility of police action being taken under pressure from anti-gamblers, the Stock Exchange Derby sweepstake will be abandoned. It is now announced that the mutual subscriptions fund, as it is officially called, will be limited to £IOO,OOO, of which 10 per cent is distributed to charities. Last year tho fund reached a million sterling and charities received £IOO,000. The limitation means that needy hospitals and other beneficiaries will lose £90,000.
