AUSTRALIA’S DEFENCE.

NEW MILITIA SCHEME. Received February 21, 1.5 p.m. SYDNEY, Fob. 20. Major-General Brand, second in command of the General Staff, stated in an address to The Millions Club to day that Australia’s new militia, which would be dressed in more attractive uniforms than hitherto, would approximate 35,000, but would be capable of expansion in case of aggression to 180,000. The average age of the 20,000 who had already volunteered was 23. Major-General Brand hoped that employers would enable the trainees to take the fullest advantage of the annual camp. Their attitude would be the deciding factor in the success of the volunteer force.
