CITY NOISES.

SYDNEY DEPUTATION’S VIEWS. Received February 21, 1.5 p.m. SYDNEY, Feb. 20. A deputation from the New Health Society to-day sought Government aid toward the abatement of noises. The chief complaint was against trarns, motor-cycles, motor horns, roosters, barking dogs, and rock drills, which were ] described as hideous. It was claimed that these noises seriously affected the public health and caused loss of efficiency. The Minister of Health, Dr. Arthur, sympathised with the deputation, .and promised to make representations to Cabinet. Ho ventured the opinion that jazz and the talkies, which he dubbed as “squawkies,” were oven worse than anything the deputation had mentioned.
