BANKRUPT IN TROUBLE.

MAGISTRATE'S WARNING. Per Press Association. GISBORNE. Feb. 8. “There is a great deal too much of this all over New Zealand,” said Air Harper. S.M., in the Alagistrate’s Court last evening, when convicting Richard Galyer, a bankrupt sharemilker on two charges of obtaining credit at a time when ho had no reasonable or probable expectation of being able to pay his debts. “Those men get into a hopeless position.” the Alagistrate said, “and carry on without any hope of being able to pay their debts. In fact, their actions amount to obtaining goods by false pretences. It seejns to me a pity that more informations have not been laid. The requirements of the Bankruptcy Act. must he respected.” The Alagistrate said that in October, 1929,. Galycr’s debts amounted to £249. Tho defence had made a great fuss about £75 which he expected to receivo and £69 which lie actually received, but it seemed very suspicious that he spent the whole of the £O9 in purchasing large quantities of stores from persons with whom he had ■ not dealt before.

Accused was ordered to come up for sentence if called on within three months.

The Alagistrate dismissed charges ■against Galyer of obtaining credit for £IOO without disclosing the fact that he was an undischarged bankrupt and of disposing of, other than by sale in the ordinary way of trade, a milking plant, the payments on which he had not completed.
