GUY FAWKES DAY.
EVENING OF FIRE WORKS. Ribbons of trailing fire shooting across the sky to burst into showers of sparks, and the reverberation of miniature fireworks explosions marked the juvenile celebration last evening of the Guy Fawkes gunpowder plot. While the fireworks lasted, there was a merry and spectacular evening, and it was not until the night was drawing lath that shooting rockets appeared with less frequency, and tho steady din of explosions dwindled to mere spasmodic bursts of crackers. There was a very large attendance at the fireworks display held by Saint Peter’s Church at Terrace End. A large fire was lit and an effigy of Guy Fawkes was burned amid the setting off of many brilliantly coloured fireworks, which made a very pretty scene. When all the fireworks were spent and the fire burned low, a dance in the hall was held, being well attended by the young people. The evening was a great success and the, sum derived by a silver collection and proceeds of tho dance will be devoted to the church funds.
