(From Our Own Correspondent.) OTAKI, Nov. 4. Vital statistics for Otaki for October were: —Births 4, doaths 5, marriages 1. Saturday proved ideal for sport, and in consequence tennis players, bowlers, croquet players and cricketers had enjoyable games. Quite a number of local “sports” attended the Wellington trotting meeting and the Taratahi-Cartorton races on Saturday. Special services were held at St. Mary'6 Church on Friday (All Saints’ Day). The church was well-tilled on each occasion. The rainfall at Otaki for the month cf October was 2.46 inches. Rain fell on eleven days. There were two fnosts during the month. Two cars, one driven by Mr Power, the other by Mr Capewell, collided yesterday and were slightly damaged. The occupants were uninjured. Members of the Iti Rcbekah Bodge played the Fire Brigade euchre, but suffered defeat by two games. The evening proved most enjoyable, and all partook of supper. Archdeacon Johnson paid a visit to Otaki last week and on Friday conducted service at All Saints’ Church. There was a good congregation. Mr and Mrs Bruce Ferguson, of Wellington, were among the visitors to Otaki yesterday. Rev. Father McDonald, of Highdcn, was in Otaki at the week-end, but has now gone south. Inspector Furse has resumed his duties after a week’s holiday in Wellington. Mr T. O’Rourke left to-day on holiday for New Plymouth. He expects to be away for about two weeks. Mr and Mrs E. S. Morse left for Gisborne to-day on account of the serious illness of the latter's mother. Mr Bcrnic Petrie, son of Rev. G. F. Petrie, who recently suffered severe injuries in a motor accident, is reported to be making good progress. Mr and Mrs Albert Smith, after an enjoyable motor tour of the Taranaki and Auckland districts, returned to Otaki on Saturday night. The distance travelled was over 1500 miles Mr and Mrs D. G. Taylor have returned to Otaki after an enjoyable holiday spent in various parts of the island. Mrs A. D. Webster, who remained in Sydney on account of ill-health, is expected to return to Otaki in about two weeks’ time. The death occurred on September 23rd at Highland Hospital, Oakland, California, of Caroline, N.Z.A.N.S., youngest daughter of the lato James and Ann Downing, Condick. Ballarat, Victoria, and a sister of Mrs H. Witched, Otaki. As the result of Wednesday’s bazaar the sum of £96 11s 5d was raised towards the church building fund.
