BULLS
TOWN BOARD. (From. Our Own Correspondent). BULLS, Oct. 12. Tho Bulls Town Board met on Thursday evening. President: Messrs J. E. Walker (chairman), F. A. Holland, J. F. Flynn, J. B. Robins and C. M. Broughton. Messrs H. Stevens and Y. Edhouse were granted leave of absence. Foreman S. Howard reported that he lhad graded all main roads four times; filled in potholes on main roads twice; placed clay on main roads; cleaned out sand bin and refilled with fresh sand, and filled water trough; screened metal at pit; effected repairs to cemetery gate, and watertable in High Street; cleaned footpath in Domain; clayed corner in Daniel Street. — The foreman was instructed to grade clay off Hammond Street. Mr J. Robins was asked to consult Mr- Kidd regarding patching the concrete footpath in Upper Bridge Street. Repairs are to bo effected to the bridge in Domain leading to tho cow paddock. Mr F. Holland was asked to see that- the decking on the bridge in Daniel Street was put in repair. The cemetery committco was authorised to have improvements effected at tho entrance to tho cemetery as it was difficult to turn cars there. It was reported that damage wa3 being done to tho road leading to the top end of the Recreation Ground, and it was suggested that lorries using the road should bo limited to reasonable loads. Finally, Messrs Walker and Broughton were instructed to interview the carriers. A chomical fire extinguisher was offered to the board at a very low figure, and the chairman and tho town clerk were authorised to make tho best deal possible. The ventilation of tho Town Hall was discussed, and quotations were considered for installing an olectrio • fan. Tho ball committco was instructed to arrango for a fan measuring 4ft lOin to be installed so as to draw the foul air through tho largo ventilator at the top of tho building. Permission was granted to eroct a workshop in Gorton Street. / The Valuation Department wrote advising that £6O 10s 6d, being subsidy on rates collected, had been placed to the Town Board’s credit at the Bank of Now Zealand, Bulls. Transfers of property were approved as follow:—From John and A. H. Ellery to A. E. Ellery, and from John and A. H. Ellery to Mrs Ivy Ellery. Credit balances were shown as follow : Disirict Fund £521 19s 8d; Cemetery £23 13s; Library £lB 13s. Account passed for payment totalled: General account £SO 18s 4d; Cemetery £1 10s; Library £3 18s 2d; Collections for the month: Rates £35 5s 8d; Town Hall rents £26 2s 6d; dog tax ss; cemetery £4 ss; library £5 17s. Tho library committee reported that the library was becoming very congested. New books were being added,- and the old ones had to be stowed away out of sight. Tho reading room and library being all in one ivas unsatisfactory, and it was suggested that the proposal to add a room at tho back for the lending part of tho library should be seriously considered. Eventually. Messrs Walker, Holland and Walker wore appointed to go fully into tho matter, and to report to the Board. DOMAIN BOARD. Tho above members then sat as a Domain Board. Tho domain account was in credit £ll 17s 7d, and accounts totalling £7 15s 2d wero passed for payment. Tho secretary of the Bulls Tennis Club sent invitations to board members to attend the opening of the tennis courts. — Received. Tho secretary of tho Manawatu Motor Club wrote thanking the hoard for the use of tho Sportsground for their picnic.— Received. It was reported that the sheep on the Sportsground wero doing well, but shearing will not ho done until after Christmas. The works committee for the ensuing month will consist of Messrs Flynn, Robins and Holland.
