WHALING ACTIVITIES.

PREPARING TO DEPART. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Oct. 12. After taking aboard 4000 tons of water, the whaler .Rosmos went into the stream to load explosives before sailing with her seven chasers for the Ross Sea, where she will remain till the end of February. The Sir James Clark Ross arrives to-night. She has been converted to oil burning, and will load 500 tons of coal for her five chasers at present at the Stewart Island base. The C. M. Larsen, which works in conjunction with the Sir James Clark Ross, arrives on. Monday or Tuesday.
