(From Our Own Correspondent). SANDON, Sept. 4. The annual ball organised by the Hui lilai Football Club and held last week was the most successful function held under the auspices of the club. Visitors were present from all round the district. Tho hall was tastefully decorated, the club colours, blue and white, predominating. At an interval during the evening, Mr H. J. Fagan (president of the sub-union) presented the third-class shield to Mr W. Coats, the captain of tho Hui Alai team. Tho opportunity was also taken to officially present to the Hui Mai senior team tho “ran-after shield.” Mr A. Hickey briefly responded on behalf of the Hui Mai team. The speaker concluded his remarks by thanking the ladies for the help given in connection with the gathering. Some of the dresses worn were as follow ; —Mm H. J. Fagan, black georgette; Mrs W. E. White (Rongotea), green satin with tulle; Miss Avery, black georgette trimmed with saxe blue; Miss Lumsden, pink satin with Tho proposed race for tho Eglinton Challenge Cup was postponed, owing to some of tho birds escaping en route to the starting point.
