POHANGINA VALLEY.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) POHANGINA, June 11. Tho annual meeting of the Pohangina Valley branch of the Dairy Farmers’ Union was held in the Raumai Hall on Saturday evening. Mr J. D. Balmer presided over a good attendance. Tho election of officers resultod as follows President, Mr J. D. Balmer; vice-president, Mr J. T. Moar; hon. secretary, Mr J. Dawson; hon. auditor, Mr B. Nash; delegate to conference, Mr A. Balmer; committee, Messrs B. B. Brockets G. Wagstaff, T. G. Turnbull, G. H. Passey, A. Balmer, J. Rowbotham, F. .Woods, H. Fitzherbert and W. Lucas. The president, Mr J. D. Balmer, after thanking tho meeting for re-electing him as president, said that, during tho past year, it had always been a pleasure to him to work with the committee in the interests of the branch and of tho union. Only those who are in close touch with union affairs could understand and appreciate the good work which was being done by the union in the interests of the dairy farmers. Speaking of the recent federation of the Farmers’ Union and the Dairy Farmers’ Union, the speaker said that tho executive of the Dairy Farmers’ Union had long worked for a scheme of federation whereby it would retain its identity. He was pleased to say that this had now been accomplished, and both unions were strengthened by the federation. The speaker referred briefly to tho activities of tho union during the past year. A matter which was receiving attention was the Power Board's decision to increase' the charges on water heaters. A deputation from the union had waited on tho Power Board and had been assured that the matter would again bo considered at tho earliest opportunity. After referring to other questions of interest to dairy farmers, tho speaker concluded by urging all members, to support the. union and the executive which was doing splendid work in the interests of the dairying industry. The following remits to the provincial conl fcrenco wero carried:—(l) That steps bo taken to ensure that regular market reports of baconers and porkers be published through the Press. (2) That a report of tho work of the union during each year be sent to the secretary of each branch, the report to bo presented at the annual meeting of the branch, also that tho conference discuss tho advisabiltiy of sending a report to each member of the union. It wa3 decided to hold the annual ladies’ and children’s evening in tho Raumai Hall dU A n motion by the president, “That the members of this branch extend their deepest sympathy to Mr andl Mrs B. B. Beckett and to the family of the late Mr Moar, was carried, tho members standing m silCn Accounts totalling £1 were passed for payment.
