OUTBOARD MOTOR BOATS

COMPETITORS STRIKE TROUBLE.

(Australian Press Association). LONDON, June 9. An outboard motorboat race from Dover to Calais and back was commenced yesterday, but was abandoned after three hours. Many of the craft becamo waterlogged and had engine trouble or lost their way; some ran out of petrol and drifted helplessly. One caught fire. Forty-nino craft left Dover and it was expected that the leaders would return in under two hours, but not a single boat came in sight. Tugs, fast motor cruisers, lifeboats and yachts pUt out of Dover and rescued the crews after - scouring tho Channel all afternoon and night. Many of the competitors, who included four women, had distressing experiences.
