COTTON TRADE CRISIS.
WAGES CUT PROPOSED
(Times Cables.)
LONDON, Juno 8. The Manchester correspondent of the Times states: “Peace in the Lancashire cotton trade is gravely threatened by the employers’ decision to revive last year’s proposal of a twelve and a half per cent, cut in wages, for which they have called a special meeting on June 21. The cut will enable more successful competition with other countries, resulting in increased sales, fuller employment and, consequently, higher individual wages. The proposal affects 200,000 operatives, whose leaders announce that it will be strenuously opposed.”
