TIAKITAHUNA

(From Our Own Correspondent.) TIAKITAHUNA, Juno 8. Despite the heavy downpour of rain the “June Ball” was well patronised. No doubt if the night had been fine there would have been many more present. Songs were contributed by Miss V. Corke and Mr Corke, the accompanist being Miss E. Corke. Extras were played by Miss R. Birch, a professional orchestra supplying the music. Mr G. Siverson was a capable M.C. Those ladies responsible for the dispensing of the supper were Mesdamcs W. Jeffrey, P. Parker, D. Rowland and Garner, und Miss E. Jeffrey. Mr D. Buick again officiated at the copper. The organiser, Miss E. Jeffrey, must bo congratulated on her fine work. It is hoped that in her next effort the elements will bo kinder. Miss Crouchcr, of Richmond, Nelson, 's the guest of Mrs N. P. Nielsen. Friends of Mr E. P. Nielsen will be pleased to hear that he has slightly improved from tho severe injury sustained to his arm. Mr J. Hawke, factory manager, is relinquishing his duties at tho end of the present month. Mr Hawke is to bo congratulated on his promotion to a larger factory. Miss N. Edwards is leaving shortly for a

trip to the Old Country. It is also rumoured that another resident is seeking pastures new.

Very heavy rain fell in the district on Thursday and Friday, especially on Friday evening between five and eight o’clock when there was a continuous downpour. The thought of another flood was in the minds of many.
