LABOUR DIVIDED
ELECTION IN SOUTH AFRICA. UNEXPECTED ELEMENTS. COUNTRY CONFUSED AS TO PROSPECTS. (United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Australian Press Association). Received June 8, 10.15 a.m. CAPETOWN, June 7. The general secretary of the Labour Council advises sympathisers to vote for rile South African Party. He states that the Labour Party has been wrecked and ruined by selfish ambitions, and that it is the most pitiable thing in South African politics. The' introduction of unexpected elements leaves the country confused as to the prospects for the general election. The question of Dominion status has been dispelled, chiefly by the differences among the Dutch section of the population. The more sober element believe that the present differences will not be substantial. <
Uncertainty has arisen over the bitter division in the Labour ranks. The Creswellites and the Nationalists are solidly combined, while the supporters of tho National Council are not supporting the South African Party. The only certainty is that Labour will be considerably weakened. It is believed that the Pact Party will secure a sufficient majority from the Government Ministers to claim a majority of 13, while the South African Party anticipate a narrow majority over all parties.
