IMPORTATION OF JAMS.
PROTECTION DUTY WANTED. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Juno 7. Hon. H. Atmore has promised to bring before Cabinet the strong representations made by fruit growers, jam manufacturers and fruit merchants, who asked for a protective duty to meet the imports from South Africa. It was stated that the growers were being stifled by the importation of jams free of duty. The loss to New Zealand in ono season alone was stated to have been £7BOO.
