.Mr it. P. J- Ray, who was for 40 years in the service of the Auckland 'Education Board, and was for many years assistant-secretary, died at Brisini on Tuesday, states a Press Association telegram from Auckland.
Last night’s Gazette formally announces that the Governor-General has accepted the resignation of Mr Justice Lrazor of his office as a Judge of the Supreme Court, to which he was temporarily appointed in December last. At a gathering of railway officers in the chief mechanical engineer’s room in Wellington yesterday attornoon Mr G. F. Lynde made a presentation on behalf of the railway officers at headquarters to Mr J. F. Mackley, engineer of railways in the North Island, who has just retired from the department after forty years’ service. At the opening of the wool sale at Wanganui on Wednesday, Mr Milnes, speaking on behalf of the Woolbuyers’ Association, expressed deep regret at the recent untimely death of Mr T. F. philipson, auctioneer for Levin and Co., Ltd. The buyers wished also to extend their sympathy to the widow and relatives. At the speaker’s 'request all in the sale room stood in silence in respect for the memory of the deceased gentleman.
At the Dominion Laboratory at Wellington yesterday afternoon the staff bade farewell to Dr. Maciaunn, Dominion Analyst and Director of the Dominion Laboratory, on the eve of his departure as representative of the New Zealand . Government at the Science Congress, shortly to be held in Java. On behalf of the staff Mr Andrew made a small presentation to Dr. and Mrs Maclaurin and wished them a pleasant trip. Dr. and Mrs Maclaurin hope also to visit Japan and other countries of the East. They will be away six or seven months.
