SCHOOL RUGBY

MANAWATU ASSOCIATION

ANNUAL MEETING. Mr F. C. Campbell presided over the annual meeting of the Manawatu Primary Schools Rugby Football Association on Wednesday evening, i ANNUAL REPORT. The annual report stated: “The season ’ lias seen tlie continuation of the previous good work in the development of school football, and in consequence of some changes being made in the competitions there has been an. improvement in the games, and we trust an improvement in the standard of play will be noticed next season as a result of this. During the year the fine traditions of the game have been upheld by the boys playing under our control, and we wish to congratulate the teams who were successful in the various competitions and also those who, though not winning, played with such good spirit. We have once again received most generous assistance from the M.R.F.U. and we wish to record our appreciation of this help. Tlie schools have also supported tlie Rugby code very well and. we thank them for their support. Tho usual weekly competition was again held, but changes were made and the A grade competition wjs played in two rounds among teams from Central, Terraco End, College Street and Convent. The B grade was 1 much the bigger competition and was played between teams from Terrace End, College. Street, Convent, Hokowliitu, West End and Central, altogether .eight teams taking part. The weight limit for this grade was fixed at 7st 71bs. The annual seven-aside tournament was held and attracted good entries, 31 teams representing 15 schools taking part. The annual seven-aside tournament conducted by the M.R.F.U. was also played and in both these tournaments some fine games were witnessed. The results were as follow:—lnterischools competition: A grade, Terrace End; B grade, Hokowhitu. Seven-aside tournament (senior) for the shield, Taikorea; junior, M.A.S. Cup, Rangiotu.;' M. seven-aside (senior), Taiikorea. The annual tournament was played at Wellington and was won by Wanganui. Our team, though good in the forwards, was weak in the back division and this will need special attention this coming season. We were beaten by Wairarapa (last year’s winners), defeated Wellington, and then were narrowly beaten by Wanganui after more than holding our own for the better part of the game. Injuries and sickness weakened tne team considerably. The conduct of the boys was a credit to the schools from wliicn they came and we wish to express our thanks to those who made our stay in Wellington so enjoyable. The team was under the managership of Messrs Trevena and Leet. At the annual meeting of delegates at Wellington, the age limit for tho next tournament at Wanganui was fixed at 15 years. The balance-sheet shows a small credit balance on the year’s working.” The report concluded with thanks to' all who had rendered assistance last season. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted :—President, Mr F. C. Campbell (re-elected) ; vice-presi-dents, Messrs A. J. Trevena and Watts; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr 1. N. Leet.
