MEMORIAL CARILLON
BELLS FOR WELLINGTON. , PERFECT RANGE AND TONE. OFFICIAL RECITAL IN LONDON. (United Press Association.. —By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Australian Press Association.—United Service.) LONDON, April 10. To-day at the ' works of the bellfounders, Messrs Gillett arid Johnston, Croydon, London, a large and. represenative gathering assembled to inspect the. Wellington Memorial Carillon, which is being shipped to New Zealand in a fortnight. Mr Clifford Ball played selections from Schubert, Mozart and Mendelssohn, demonstrating that the bells were of perfect range and tone. Sir James Parr, New Zealand’s High Commissioner, paid a tribute to the bell founders’ work" which admittedly was the finest in the world. He regretted that lie was unable to comply with the request of the organisers of the British Industries’ Exhibition, which would be held shortly at Newcastle, that the carillon be loaned to the exhibition for six months. The carillon would undoubtedly have been a great attraction.
Sir James added that the site chosen for the tower was the finest in New Zealand.
