DISPENSER’S ERROR.
DEATH OF THREE BOYS. (Australian Press Association.) LONDON, April 8. How the accidental transposition of a decimal point caused the death cf three brothers suffering from ringworm was revealed in an inquest at a coroner’s enquiry at Wembly to-day. A doctor at St. John’s Hospital for diseases of the skin prescribed a Continental drug known as thalium acetate, the doses of which are calculated according to the patient’s weight. A young woman dispenser explained that she had to convert the prescription from metric to apothecaries weights, in the course of which she mistook the position of a decimal point. The coroner pointed out that the result was that the bottle contained a quantity ten times too great. The jury returned a verdict of death by poison accidentally administered.
