CADET CAMP.
SECONDARY SCHOOL UNITS,
The secondary school cadets in camp at the Showgrounds have now settled down to work. The infantry section, containing as it does many small boys, is receiving instructions only in company drill, elementary musketry and physical and recreational drill. Nothing in the shape of sham fights or night attacks will be attempted, but one afternoon a selected squad will give a demonstration of a platoon in action.
The High School battery, which is a picked unit, has a more ambitious programme, the specialist courses for gunners, drivers and staff being practically the same as for territorials. There are six R.N.Z.A. instructors and these are training the cadets in all departments. ' Attached to the battery are four 18-pounder field guns and 16 horses. v
The tent lines are kept in neat order, the cadets having mastered the details of arranging their equipment and folding their blankets. To-morrow afternoon the camp will be thrown op«n between two and five o’clock for visitors. The cadets will continue their ordinary training, but that arranged by the battery should prove of interest as figures of eight will be described and practice in passing in aqd out of pegs will be conducted.
Entertainments have been arranged ,by the Y.M.C.A. in the shape of concert parties and to-morrow evening the Junior Orchestra will render a programme. Mr Vic. French, of Flock House, will show cinematograph films on Thursday evening and on Friday night the Garrison Band will give a concert. ...
