ROWING.

Per Press Association. WESTPORT, March 30. A boating carnival was held on the Buffer River this afternoon, with the outstanding attraction a rowing race for the Gotliard Cup, between Kawatin (Westport), the holders and Nelson, the challengers, »the latter winning by six langths. The winners were a heftier crew than the losers and rowed a fine swinging stroke, which early took them to the front .and kept them there. The race between the secondary crews, Nelson and Kawatiri, was won by the latter by four lengths. A motor launch race was won by Mr Jackson’s Acme. The cup was presented to the Nelson crew at a social to-night, when the team was congratulated on its victory and assured that a Kawatira crew would visit Nelson next rowing season to endeavour to recover the coveted trophy.
