WOODVILLE.

With the season just ending, the Woodville district has had a very satisfactory period of milk production, and factory outputs, both for butter and cheese, have been, in many cases, ■above the average of previous years. Although a decided slackening in supplies has occurred during the past few weeks, the return has been higher than for the same period of last year, and the cheques for the month should be extremely satisfactory. Top-dress-ing and strict attention to pasture management have been, apart from the nature of the season, largely responsible for the increased production, while the, types of dairy animals include some of the best representatives of the various breeds in the Dominion. Pig raising has seemed to increase during the last few months, and many are regarding the pig as a profitable line, and giving it a little more attention than has been the case in the past. It has been realised by many that the pig should not he treated as tlis farm scavenger, and a change of method has resulted in a much better return. Each year the Woodville Fire Brigade holds a contest for the. Sullivan Cup and a junior event for a trophy presented by Mr S. Brightwell. These events were decided recently, the winner of the Sullivan Cup being Senior Foreman Pritchard, with Fireman J. Spackman a close second. Fireman L Birkahn was first in the competition for the Brightwell trophy, and Fireman Scott second. The Boys’ Band played selections during the afternoon, their excellent contributions being much appreciated. . . At a recent meeting of citizens matters in connection with the Boys’ Band were discussed. The band under the able conductorsliip of Mr A. Hodgkins has made wonderful progress since its 'formation a few months ago, its mem’borship at the present time being over 40. The conductor is anxious to return to Australia, hut . the opinion is held that a strong effort should be made to retain his services, and this was one of 4he questions under consideration at the meeting. After a ,lengthy discussion it was unanimously resolved that a citizens’ committee, ’consisting of Messrs W, P. Smith, S. V. . Brightwell, McNeil, F. C. Spackman R. Johnstone, G. Fairley, • R. Jensen, C. Grager, S. Turnbull, Meakin, A. Hodgkins and E. R. Grinlinton, with Iris. Worship the Mayor, as member ex officio, bo set up to control the hand. Mr Johnston was. elected secretary, Mr Smith, chairman, and Mr Spackman manager of the Boys Band. ’ ; ; PERSONAL. ; Mr W. Cade, formerly of the Woodvillo Post Office staff, has been promoted to postmaster at Kaitaia. Mrs. W. Burnett, of Kumeroa, is now residing in Woodville. Mr and Mrs H.
