FRENCH POLITICS
PASSAGE OF RELIGIOUS’ ACTS. HAILED AS A TRIUMPH. PREMIER’S SOUND MAJORITY. (United Press Association.—By Electric / Telegraph.) (Australian Press Association.) Received March 30, 10.25 a.m. PARIS, March 29. The newspapers to-day comment favourably on the adoption by the Chamber of Deputies of the nine projects known as the Religious Acts. Their adoption by the Chamber is generally hailed as a triumph, and likely to break the force of the groups opposing M. Poincare’s Government. The Press assert that the anti-cleri-cal attitude. of the Radical and Socialist opposition has proved ineffectual against the sound minority which the Premier now commands. , It is predicted that, in contrast with the recent shaky position of the Cabinet, the passage of the Religious Acts will demonstrate that the force of the opposition no longer exists as a possible check to the administration. Most of the comment describes the Radical campaign against the Cabinet as belonging to a regime which already has passed in France, and which now properly “should be exhibited among the curios of the waxworks.”
