TIMBER DISPUTE.

BALLOT PAPERS NOT BURNED, OFFICIAL DENIAL. SYDNEY, March 28. The Commissioner of Police officially stated to-day that ballot papers of an effigy of Mr Justice. Lukin were not burned last night at the conclusion of the timber workers’ procession. The commissioner added that some ruffians put a number of old newspapers in some sacks and burned them. Lieutenant-Colonel Bruxner, who Is relieving the Chief Secretary, accepted this explanation. Colonel Bruxner declared ko-day that the assurance given by Mr “Jock” Garden, that the burning of ballot papers , and an effigy of Mr Lukin would not occur, though arrangements to do this had been made, was faithfully kept. All of the men who were arrested last evening have been remanded until after the Easter holidays on bail.
