HEAVY BOOKINGS

TRAINS COMPLETELY RESERVED. EASTER HOLIDAY TRAFFIC. There has been the usual rush of holiday traffic on the railways during the last lew days, the busy period reaching its peak to-day. Despite the extra-trains that were, being run, all seats on to-day 's expresses were booked up before last evening. The Railways have been quite as busy as during the Christmas period. Though, perhaps, not so many people are travelling, the kolidays B are shorter so that, practically all the business is done within a few days. The practice of prior booking, as encouraged by the department, has been very marked. The Limited expresses for to-day were both completely reserved a lortnight ago, while, as stated above, there were no vacant seats on any of the expresses for to-day. As was the case last Christmas, two extra express trains for the Main Trunk line, to leave Wellington in the evening, were arranged but these could not cope with the demands of passengers .and they will run in two sections, the second following about an hour after the first. In addition, the Daylight Limited is running on the Main Trunk line, while there are also extra trains on the Napier and New Plymouth routes.

The heavy traffic and the large trains have made it impossible Tor the timetable to be strictly maintained and expresses passing through Palmerston North to-day were varying times behind schedule. The Main Trunk express this morning was an hour late.
