RONGOTEA NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) RONGOTEA, March 28. There aro some twenty scholars attending secondary schools from Rongotca and district and the cost of transport amounts to £2l per annum. From the district quoted an aggregate sum of £420 is spent annually to transport the country scholars to receive “freo” education. The Government, is is contended, should assist in this matter by way of a subsidy, as thero is no reason why thoso who aro unfortunate enough to live in tho country and away from tho railway should suffer this big disadvantage. • Parents who would like to give their childron a secondary education find it impossible owing to tho cost of transport. It is generally understood that there is .an increasing drift to tho towns and one of tho causes may bo attributed to tho inability of parents to send their boys and girls to secondary schools unless they are resident in tho towns.
